Canon TS3600 Error Codes and Fixes
These are exact support-code meanings and corrective steps for Canon TS3600-series printers. Use the code displayed by the printer or Canon software.
Codes covered
1000 — No paper / rear tray
Canon says 1000 means there is no paper in the rear tray or paper is not loaded correctly.
- Reload the rear tray squarely.
- Slide both guides against the paper without bending the stack.
- Press OK to clear the error and retry.
1203 — Cover opened during printing
Canon says the printer cover was opened while a job was printing.
- Pull out any remaining sheet slowly with both hands.
- Close the cover fully.
- Press OK. Canon notes the interrupted page is not automatically reprinted.
1403 — FINE cartridge error
Canon defines 1403 as a FINE cartridge error.
- Wait for the cartridge holder to stop moving.
- Remove and reseat the affected cartridge.
- If 1403 remains, install a new compatible FINE cartridge.
- If a known-good replacement still fails, the printer needs repair.
1430 — FINE cartridge not recognized
The printer cannot recognize a FINE cartridge.
- Remove the cartridge after the holder stops.
- Reinstall it firmly in the correct position.
- If 1430 returns, replace the cartridge.
- If a correct new cartridge is also not recognized, use Canon repair support.
1485 — Incompatible ink cartridge
Canon says the installed cartridge is not appropriate for this printer.
- Read the model number on the installed cartridge.
- Verify it against the supported cartridge for the printer.
- Install the correct cartridge and retry.
1682 — FINE cartridge cannot be recognized
Canon defines 1682 as a FINE-cartridge recognition failure.
- Identify the flagged black or color cartridge.
- Install a new compatible cartridge.
- Close the cover and retest.
1684 — Ink cartridge not recognized
The cartridge may be installed incorrectly or may not be compatible with the printer.
- Check the cartridge model number.
- Remove and reinstall it if it is correct.
- Replace it if it is not supported by the printer.
1686 — Ink cartridge / remaining-ink issue
Canon says the printer detected an issue with one or more ink cartridges.
- Identify the flagged cartridge.
- For normal operation, install a new cartridge.
- If you use Canon's override, understand that remaining-ink monitoring is disabled for that cartridge.
168A — FINE cartridge missing, loose, or incompatible
Canon says a required ink cartridge may be missing, installed incorrectly, or incompatible.
- Confirm both required cartridges are installed.
- Verify their model numbers are compatible.
- Remove and reinstall them firmly.
1701 — Ink absorber almost full
Canon defines 1701 as the ink absorber being almost full.
- Press OK if you need to continue printing.
- Treat this as a real maintenance warning, not a software-only message.
- Plan absorber service before printing becomes disabled.
1890 — Shipping tape or protective material remains
Shipping tape or protective material may still be attached around the FINE cartridge holder.
- Wait for moving parts to stop.
- Inspect for orange tape, protective plastic, or setup material.
- Do not pull on belts, encoder strips, cables, or normal printer parts.
- Close the cover and retry.
2114 — Paper-size setting mismatch
The paper size selected in the driver does not match the size registered on the printer.
- Press Stop to cancel the job.
- Check the actual paper size in the rear tray.
- Register that same size on the printer.
- Select the same size in the application/driver and print again.
2901 — Waiting to scan the alignment sheet
The print-head alignment pattern has printed and the printer is waiting for the sheet to be scanned.
- Use the alignment sheet that just printed.
- Place it printed-side down and align the marked corner correctly.
- Close the document cover without moving the sheet.
- Press Color or Black to scan and complete alignment.
3440 — Easy Wireless Connect failed
Canon's Easy Wireless Connect setup did not complete.
- Press OK to clear the failed setup state.
- Retry Easy Wireless Connect once.
- If 3440 returns, switch to another Wi-Fi setup method instead of looping the same attempt.
4102 — Media type / paper-size setting error
The selected media type and paper-size combination is not valid.
- Press Stop.
- Check the actual media loaded.
- Choose a supported paper-size/media-type combination.
- Retry the job.
4103 — Current print settings cannot be used
The printer cannot print with the current combination of settings.
- Press Stop to cancel the job.
- Open the application's print settings.
- Change the unsupported setting combination.
- Retry printing.
4104 — Unsupported paper size
The print job specifies a paper size the printer cannot feed.
- Press Stop.
- Check the paper size in the rear tray.
- Select a supported matching size in the driver.
- Retry printing.
5B01 — Ink absorber full
Canon says the waste-ink absorber is full. Waste ink from cleaning and related printer operations is stored there.
- Confirm the code is 5B01, not the earlier 1700/1701 warning.
- Do not keep trying ordinary print jobs; printing is disabled at this stage.
- Do not treat a counter reset as the physical repair.
- Arrange absorber replacement/service.
