Epson ET-2870 / ET-4800 / ET-2820 Error Codes and Fixes
Epson publishes the same LCD-code table for the ET-2870, L3280, ET-4800, L5290, ET-2820 and L3260 series. Use the exact code below to separate a jam, scanner fault, ink-pad condition, Wi-Fi setup state or firmware-recovery problem.
E-01 — Printer error
Epson says a printer error has occurred.
- Open the inner cover and scanner unit and remove any jammed paper or protective material.
- Turn the printer off and back on.
- If E-01 returns with the paper path clear, use Epson service/support rather than opening internal assemblies.
E-02 — Scanner error
The scanner failed to initialize or operate normally.
- Turn the printer off.
- Turn it back on and let the scanner initialize without moving the scanner mechanism by hand.
- If E-02 returns, use Epson support/service.
E-11 — Main ink pad needs replacement
The main waste-ink pad has reached its service limit.
- Do not try to reset the counter without replacing the service item.
- Non-printing functions such as scanning can remain available.
- Arrange replacement through Epson or an authorized Epson service provider; Epson identifies the pad as not user-serviceable.
E-12 — Borderless printing ink pad needs replacement
The borderless-printing waste-ink pad has reached its service limit.
- Borderless printing is unavailable until the pad is replaced.
- Printing with borders remains available.
- Arrange replacement through Epson or an authorized Epson service provider.
W-01 — Paper jam
Paper is jammed in the printer.
- Remove the jammed sheet and any scraps using the normal paper path.
- Press the button shown at the bottom of the LCD to clear the jam state.
- If the warning remains after the path is clear, turn the printer off and back on.
W-11 — Main ink pad nearing end of life
The main waste-ink pad is approaching its service limit.
- Press the indicated button to resume printing if needed.
- Plan authorized service before the pad reaches the replacement-required condition.
- The warning remains until the service item is replaced.
W-14 — Borderless printing ink pad nearing end of life
The borderless-printing waste-ink pad is approaching its service limit.
- Press the indicated button to continue printing.
- Plan authorized replacement of the borderless ink pad.
- Do not confuse W-14 with E-12: E-12 is the replacement-required state.
I-22 — WPS push-button setup
The printer is waiting for WPS push-button setup.
- Start WPS on the router/access point while the printer is waiting.
- If the router has no physical WPS button, use its normal administration interface if it provides a WPS control.
- Wait for the printer to complete the wireless connection.
I-23 — WPS PIN-code setup
The printer has generated a WPS PIN for the wireless setup.
- Open the router/access point WPS PIN setup.
- Enter the PIN displayed on the printer within two minutes.
- If the timer expires, use the new PIN shown by the printer.
I-31 — Wi-Fi Auto Connect setup
Epson expects the wireless setup to be completed from a computer.
- Run Epson's setup software for the exact printer family.
- Start Wi-Fi setup in the software.
- Press OK on the printer when the software begins the connection process.
I-41 — Paper Setup Auto Display is disabled
Paper Setup Auto Display is turned off, which disables some features including AirPrint.
- Open the printer's paper settings.
- Enable Paper Setup Auto Display if you want to use AirPrint.
- Retry the AirPrint job after the setting is enabled.
I-60 — WSD scan compatibility warning
The computer may not support the printer's Scan to Computer (WSD) function or the printer may not be connected correctly.
- Confirm the printer and computer are connected normally.
- If WSD scanning is unavailable in the computer's environment, use Epson's supported scanning software instead.
- Do not treat I-60 by itself as a scanner hardware failure.
Recovery Mode — Firmware update failed
The printer entered Recovery Mode because a firmware update did not complete successfully.
- Connect the printer directly to the computer with USB; Epson says network firmware updating is unavailable in Recovery Mode.
- Run the Epson firmware update again for the exact model.
- Keep power and USB connected until the update completes. If Recovery Mode remains, use Epson support.
