Epson WF-C878R Job Status Error Codes and Fixes
These codes appear in the WF-C878R job history when a print, fax, scan, email, folder or storage job does not complete successfully. The same three-digit number can mean something very specific, so use the code together with the job type.
Where to find the codeOn the WF-C878R, open Job Status and check the history for the failed job. Then use the exact three-digit code below.
Print and memory codes
| Code | What it means | What to do |
| 101 | Printer memory is full. | Reduce the job size: lower print quality/resolution, change the format, or reduce the number of images, characters or fonts, then print again. |
| 102 | Collated printing failed because there is not enough available memory. | Clear downloaded PDL fonts/macros/working data if appropriate, simplify the job, or print one copy at a time. |
| 103 | The printer lowered print quality because available memory is insufficient. | If you need the original quality, reduce the job size by changing the format or reducing images, characters or fonts. |
| 104 | Reverse-order printing failed because memory is low. | Clear unneeded downloaded PDL data if appropriate and reduce the job size before retrying reverse printing. |
| 106 | Printing from the computer is blocked by access-control settings. | Contact the printer administrator so the computer/user is allowed to print under the configured access-control policy. |
| 107 | User authentication failed and the job was canceled. | Verify the username and password. If the credentials are correct, have the administrator review the printer's Access Control settings. |
| 110 | The job printed one-sided because the loaded paper does not support duplex printing. | Load a paper type/size that supports two-sided printing and resend the job. |
| 111 | Available printer memory is running low. | Lower print quality/resolution, change the format, or simplify the job before retrying. |
| 120 | The printer cannot communicate with the connected open-platform server. | Check the server for errors and confirm the printer can reach it over the network. |
Fax sending codes
| Code | What it means | What to do |
| 201 | Fax memory is full. | Print or delete received faxes stored in Job Status. For a monochrome fax to one destination, Direct Send can avoid storing the whole job; large originals can also be split into smaller batches. |
| 202 | The recipient fax machine disconnected the line. | Wait a short time and send the fax again. |
| 203 | The printer cannot detect a dial tone. | Check the phone cable and line. If the printer is behind a PBX/terminal adapter, verify the Line Type setting; review Dial Tone Detection only if the line is known to be working. |
| 204 | The recipient fax machine is busy. | Confirm the fax number, wait, and retry. |
| 205 | The recipient fax machine does not answer. | Wait and retry; also confirm the destination number is correct and reachable. |
| 206 | The phone cable is connected incorrectly to the LINE/EXT ports. | Check the printer's LINE and EXT connections and move the phone-line cable to the correct port. |
| 207 | The printer is not connected to a phone line. | Connect the printer's LINE port to a working phone line before sending a fax. |
| 208 | A fax failed for one or more specified recipients. | Print the Fax Log or Last Transmission report to identify the failed destination. If Save Failure Data is enabled, resend the failed job from Job Status. |
Scan to USB / memory-device codes
| Code | What it means | What to do |
| 301 | Not enough free space on the memory device. | Free space, use a larger device, reduce the number of documents, or lower scan resolution/increase compression. |
| 302 | The memory device is write-protected. | Disable write protection on the device, then retry. |
| 303 | No usable folder exists for the scanned image. | Insert another supported memory device and retry the scan. |
| 304 | The memory device was removed during the job. | Reinsert the device securely and resend the scan. |
| 305 | An error occurred while saving data to the memory device. | If a computer is accessing the device, wait until that access finishes, then retry. If the error returns, test a different supported device. |
| 306 | Printer memory is full while other jobs are running. | Wait for active jobs to finish, then retry the scan. |
Scan to email codes
| Code | What it means | What to do |
| 311 | DNS error. | Check the printer's TCP/IP DNS settings and confirm the configured DNS server can resolve the mail server. |
| 312 | Email-server authentication error. | Review Email Server settings in Web Config/control panel and verify the authentication credentials and method. |
| 313 | Communication error with the email server. | Print a network connection report, run the email-server connection check, and make sure the authentication method matches the mail server. |
| 314 | The scanned attachment is larger than the configured maximum. | Increase the allowed attachment size if appropriate, or lower scan resolution/increase compression. |
| 315 | Printer memory is full while preparing the email job. | Wait for other jobs to finish and retry. |
| 316 | Mail encryption error. | Check the encryption certificate and verify the printer's date/time are correct. |
| 317 | Mail-signature error. | Check the signing certificate and verify the printer's date/time are correct. |
Scan to network folder / secure destination codes
| Code | What it means | What to do |
| 321 | DNS error for the destination server. | Check the printer's DNS settings and confirm the destination server name resolves correctly. |
| 322 | Authentication error for the configured location. | Review the destination Location settings, including username, password and path. |
| 323 | Communication error with the folder destination. | Check the Location settings and print a network connection report to verify the printer is online. |
| 324 | A file with the same name already exists. | Delete/rename the existing file or change the scan file-name prefix. |
| 325 | Not enough storage space in the destination folder. | Free destination storage, reduce the number of documents, or lower scan resolution/increase compression. |
| 326 | Not enough storage space in the destination folder. | Free destination storage, reduce the number of documents, or lower scan resolution/increase compression. |
| 327 | Printer memory is full. | Wait until other active jobs finish, then retry. |
| 328 | The destination is wrong or does not exist. | Review the configured Location/path and confirm that the destination still exists. |
| 330 | FTPS/HTTPS secure-connection error. | Check the destination location and update/import the required root or CA certificates in Web Config. If certificate validation still fails, involve the network/IT administrator rather than bypassing trust checks. |
| 331 | Communication error while acquiring the destination list. | Print a network connection report and confirm the printer can reach the server that provides the destination list. |
| 332 | Not enough storage at the destination. | Reduce the number of documents or free space at the destination. |
| 333 | The previously selected destination can no longer be found. | Select the destination again before resending the scan. |
| 341 | Communication error with the computer used for scanning. | Check the printer/computer connection, verify the network if applicable, and make sure Epson Document Capture Pro is installed when that workflow requires it. |
| 350 | FTPS/HTTPS certificate error. | Correct the printer's date/time/time-zone settings and update/import the appropriate root or CA certificate in Web Config. |
Fax save and forwarding codes
| Code | What it means | What to do |
| 401 | Not enough free space on the memory device for fax data. | Free space or use a memory device with more available capacity. |
| 402 | The memory device is write-protected. | Disable write protection and retry. |
| 404 | The memory device was removed. | Reinsert the device securely. |
| 405 | An error occurred while saving fax data to the memory device. | Reinsert the device. If the error returns, try a different supported device prepared with the printer's fax-data folder function. |
| 411 | DNS error while forwarding fax data by email. | Check TCP/IP DNS settings and confirm the email-server hostname resolves. |
| 412 | Authentication error while forwarding fax data by email. | Review Email Server settings and verify the authentication method and credentials. |
| 413 | Communication error while forwarding fax data by email. | Check email-server settings, confirm the authentication method matches the server, and verify the printer's network connection. |
| 421 | DNS error while forwarding fax data to a folder. | Check printer DNS settings and confirm the forwarding server name resolves. |
| 422 | Authentication error for the fax-forwarding folder. | Review the Save/Forward destination settings, including the folder credentials. |
| 423 | Communication error with the fax-forwarding folder. | Verify the printer's network connection and review the configured Save/Forward destination. |
| 425 | Not enough free space in the forwarding destination folder. | Free storage in the forwarding destination and retry. |
| 428 | The forwarding destination is wrong or does not exist. | Review the configured Save/Forward destination and correct the folder/path. |
