Windows says the printer driver is unavailable
If Windows can see the printer but says the driver is unavailable, keep the printer connection in place while you check the software. Do not start with a random driver-download website.
Check Windows Update
Install available Windows updates, including printer-related driver updates if Windows offers them. Restart the PC if Windows asks.
Look at the printer again
Return to Printers & scanners. If Windows offers a Find drivers option or the printer begins working normally, test one page before changing anything else.
If you need the printer maker's software, use its official site
Use the Printer Triage official-support directory to reach the manufacturer. Match the exact printer model and your Windows version.
Only remove and re-add if the driver problem remains
Remove only this printer, restart if needed, add it again through Printers & scanners, then test before installing more software.
Using a newer Copilot+ or other ARM-based Windows PC?
Microsoft currently notes that some ARM-based PCs can have trouble when a printer is added through a manufacturer's installer. Microsoft recommends trying Windows Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Add device instead, unless the printer maker gives specific Windows-on-ARM instructions.
Avoid driver-download ads, “driver updater” programs, and phone numbers shown in pop-ups. If you need manufacturer help, start from its official website yourself.
