Print job stuck on Mac
A paused printer or one failed job can block everything behind it. Clear the smallest problem first instead of resetting all Mac printing.
1. Open the printer queue
- Open Apple menu → System Settings.
- Click Printers & Scanners.
- Click your printer.
- Open Printer Queue.
2. Resume if the printer is paused
If Print Center shows a Resume button, click it. Then retry the original job.
3. Remove only the job showing an error
Select the failed or stuck job and delete it. Send a simple one-page test afterward. If that prints, the stuck job was the problem.
4. Try another app
If the original document keeps sticking, print something simple from Preview or TextEdit. If another app works, the original app or document is the likely cause.
5. Re-add the printer if every job sticks
Remove just this printer in Printers & Scanners and add it again. This rebuilds one queue without erasing every printer on the Mac.
6. Full reset is last
Apple says Reset Printing System removes all printers, completed-job information, and printer presets. Use it only after the normal queue and re-add steps fail.
