What usually causes it

  • The RADIUS/EAP server certificate passed its expiration date.
  • The printer's clock is set too far into the future, making the certificate appear expired.
  • A replacement server certificate was installed on some authentication nodes but this printer is reaching an older node.

What to try

Step 1

Check the printer clock

Make sure the date and time are reasonable before concluding that the server certificate is expired.

Step 2

Have the administrator inspect the active RADIUS certificate

Confirm the certificate presented to clients is within its validity period and is the intended replacement if a renewal occurred.

Step 3

Check clustered authentication servers

If the environment uses multiple RADIUS nodes, verify all nodes were updated and are presenting the same current certificate.

Step 4

Retry after the certificate path is corrected

Reconnect without disabling certificate validation. An expired server certificate should be replaced or the incorrect clock corrected.

After each corrective action

Retry the same operation that produced 19. If it now works, stop there rather than changing unrelated printer, network, supply, or service settings.

If the code returns

If code 19 is intermittent, compare which authentication server handled each attempt; one node may still be presenting an expired certificate.

When service may be needed

Certificate renewal is an administrator task. Printer disassembly is not appropriate, and bypassing expiration checks would reduce 802.1X security.
