How to find your printer model

You do not need to know anything technical. We are looking for the printer's model name or model number—not the serial number.

Start on the front of the printerThe model is often printed near the screen, buttons, paper tray, or brand logo.
Step 1

Look at the front and top

Look for a name such as OfficeJet Pro 9015e, MFC-L3780CDW, ET-2850, or TS3722. It may be printed in small letters near the control panel.

Step 2

Check the back or side label

If the model is not obvious on the front, look for a sticker on the back or side. Smaller printers sometimes put the label underneath.

Step 3

Look for “Model” or “Product”

Copy the model name or model number. A long string labeled Serial, S/N, or Serial Number is different and usually is not needed for Printer Triage.

Step 4

If there are several numbers, do not guess

It is okay to leave the model blank. A wrong model can be worse than no model because the same error code can mean different things on different printer families.

Why Printer Triage asks

The model helps us avoid giving a procedure for a different printer. It is especially important for error codes, cartridge instructions, button-only printers, and business copiers/MFPs.

Still cannot find it?That is fine. Go back and continue without the model. We will only ask again if a model-specific step is genuinely needed.
