Printer not found on Mac
If your Mac cannot find the printer, do not start by downloading drivers. First confirm the connection and let macOS try normal discovery.
1. Check the printer
Make sure it is on and not showing a paper jam, service code, or other blocking message.
2. If it is a Wi-Fi/network printer
Make sure the Mac and printer are on the same normal network. Guest or Visitor Wi-Fi can isolate devices from one another.
3. Use the Mac's Add Printer window
- Open Apple menu → System Settings.
- Click Printers & Scanners.
- Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.
- Wait a minute or two for network printers to appear.
If the printer appears and supports AirPrint, select it and add it. AirPrint usually avoids a separate driver download.
4. If it uses USB
Reconnect the USB cable and wait about 20 seconds. If possible, test a known-good cable or the adapter you normally use. Do not change several adapters and drivers at once.
5. If a network printer still does not appear
If you know the printer's current IP address, macOS can add it manually. Use our Add a network printer by IP on Mac guide. Do not guess an IP address.
