Printer is on Wi-Fi, but the computer can't find it

Start by checking whether the computer and printer are on the same Wi-Fi. You do not need the printer's IP address for the first checks.

Do not reset anything yetA factory reset can turn a simple connection problem into a bigger setup job.

1. Check the computer's Wi-Fi name

  1. Look near the clock at the lower-right of the Windows screen.
  2. Click the network or Wi-Fi area.
  3. Find the network marked Connected.

2. Check the printer's Wi-Fi name

If the printer has a screen, open its Wi-Fi or Network screen and look for the network name. You are looking for the name, not the password.

If the names are different, connect both devices to the same home or office network and try again.

3. Watch for Guest or Visitor Wi-Fi

Guest networks can keep devices from seeing each other even when both say “Connected.” Move the printer or computer to the normal network if you are allowed to.

4. Ask Windows to look again

  1. Open Start → Settings.
  2. Go to Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  3. Choose Add device.
  4. Give Windows a minute or two to search.

5. If another computer can print

That is a good clue that the printer is already connected. Use the works on one computer but not another guide instead of resetting the printer.

6. If no computer can find it

Restart the printer normally and check its Wi-Fi name again. If it is no longer connected, use the printer's normal Wi-Fi setup steps.
