Scanner not working in Windows 11
If printing works but scanning does not, do not reset the whole printer. Start by seeing whether Windows can still find the scanner.
1. Check the printer
Make sure it is turned on and not showing a paper jam, open cover, or other message that needs attention.
2. See whether Windows can find the scanner
- Click Start → Settings.
- Go to Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Click your printer or all-in-one.
- Look for Scanner settings.
If you see Scanner settings, Windows can see the scanner.
You can also open a scanning program you already have—such as Windows Fax and Scan, Scan, or the printer maker's app—and see whether the scanner is listed. You do not need the newer Scan app just to do this check.
3. Try one simple scan
If Windows can see the scanner, try one page with whichever scanning program is already on the computer.
If it works there but not in your usual program, the printer is probably fine. Check the program that fails.
4. If the printer uses USB
Make sure the cable is firmly connected. If printing still works but scanning disappeared recently, use the USB scanner missing guide. Windows 11 currently has a known issue that can affect some USB all-in-one printers.
5. If the printer uses Wi-Fi or Ethernet
Make sure the computer and printer are on the same home or office network. Guest or Visitor Wi-Fi can keep devices from seeing each other.
If Windows still cannot find the scanner, use the Wi-Fi printer not found guide.
6. If Windows sees the scanner but it still will not scan
Restart the computer and printer once. If it still fails, use Windows Update and the printer maker's official support page for the exact model.
