Printer won't connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi

Some printers use only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, while newer models may support both 2.4 and 5 GHz. The exact printer model matters.

Do not change the whole router yetFirst check whether your printer model supports 5 GHz. If it does not, connect it to a 2.4 GHz network that your router provides.

1. Check the printer's Wi-Fi support

Look up the exact model on the printer maker's official support site or manual. You are looking for 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or dual-band.

2. If the printer supports only 2.4 GHz

Most modern routers can provide 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz at the same time. Connect the printer to the 2.4 GHz network. Your computer or phone can often stay on the normal home Wi-Fi and still print as long as the router keeps both bands on the same local network.

3. If your router uses one Wi-Fi name for both bands

Try the normal printer setup first. Many routers choose the correct band automatically. Do not split or rename the bands unless the printer maker or router maker specifically recommends it for your setup.

4. If setup still fails

Check the router's instructions or contact the internet/router provider before changing security mode, channel settings, or other advanced Wi-Fi options.
