What usually causes it

  • A manual/static IP address does not belong to the router's current subnet.
  • The printer kept an old address after the router, subnet, or DHCP range changed.
  • DHCP is unavailable or another device is creating an addressing conflict or unexpected network range.

What to try

Step 1

Compare the printer IP with another device on the same network

Look at the first parts of the addresses and the subnet mask. A printer on a clearly different private network may be using stale manual settings.

Step 2

If the network uses DHCP, let the router assign the address

Return the printer to automatic IP assignment using Epson's network settings rather than guessing a static address.

Step 3

If a static address is required, use the administrator's assigned values

Confirm IP, subnet mask, gateway, and that the chosen address is reserved or outside conflicting DHCP assignments.

Step 4

Reconnect and print a fresh network report

Verify the new address is in the intended range before troubleshooting Windows or mobile printing.

After each corrective action

Retry the same operation that produced E-8. If it now works, stop there rather than changing unrelated printer, network, supply, or service settings.

If the code returns

If E-8 returns with DHCP enabled, check the router's DHCP service, VLAN assignment, and whether the printer is joining the correct SSID or wired network.

When service may be needed

Persistent invalid addressing should be handled by the network administrator or Epson support. Do not keep trying arbitrary IP addresses because that can create conflicts.
