What usually causes it

  • The SSID was typed incorrectly, renamed, hidden, or is not available where the printer is located.
  • The Wi-Fi password/security key is wrong, including capitalization or special characters.
  • The printer is trying to join a guest, extender, or similarly named network instead of the intended router SSID.

What to try

Step 1

Confirm the exact Wi-Fi name

Compare the SSID with a phone or computer that is connected to the intended network. Similar network names are easy to confuse.

Step 2

Re-enter the wireless password carefully

Use the current router password, preserving uppercase/lowercase letters and symbols. Do not use the router admin password unless it is also the Wi-Fi key.

Step 3

Move closer to the intended access point for setup

If the SSID is intermittent, reduce distance or interference long enough to establish the connection.

Step 4

Run the Epson connection report again

After correcting SSID or key, generate a fresh report so you can see whether E-2 clears or changes to a more specific network issue.

After each corrective action

Retry the same operation that produced E-2. If it now works, stop there rather than changing unrelated printer, network, supply, or service settings.

If the code returns

If E-2 persists with a verified SSID and password, check whether the network is hidden, uses unsupported security, or is being provided by a different access point than expected.

When service may be needed

This code is usually resolved in Wi-Fi configuration. Epson support may be appropriate if the printer cannot see a nearby compatible network that other devices can use.
