Print Job Stuck in Queue? Clear the Blockage Safely

One bad print job can block every job behind it. Start by clearing the queue itself; do not immediately remove the printer or reset the network.

Quick checks

  • Open the printer's queue.
  • Resume the printer if it is paused.
  • Cancel the job that is stuck or failed.
  • Retry one simple page after the queue is empty.

Try these fixes in order

Step 1

Open the queue

On Windows, open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → your printer → Open print queue. On Mac, open the printer from System Settings → Printers & Scanners.

Step 2

Check for pause or an obvious error

Resume the printer if it is paused. If one job shows an error, remove that job first.

Step 3

Wait for the queue to become empty

Give Windows or macOS a moment to remove the job. Do not keep sending more copies while it is clearing.

Step 4

Retry the original task once

If the job now prints, the blockage was the problem. Stop there.

Step 5

Escalate only if the job will not clear

On Windows, the next step may be restarting the Print Spooler. On Mac, use the detailed queue guide before resetting the entire printing system.
